Your Next Stamp - September Feature

Welcome to the September YOUR NEXT STAMP feature post. Each month the design team posts creations to inspire you, using specific themes or stamps. This month our feature theme is SCHOOL IS COOL!

When I think of projects for school my first thoughts go to teacher gifts or holiday creations for classmates. One of my go to projects for my kids teachers is to create a set of thank you note cards. This year I also added a decorate box to hold the notes.

This box was used for a set of 12 note cards (with envelopes) and the box measures 6 x 4 3/4 x 1 3/4 inches.

I created a fun chalkboard effect on my box using the A'DORK'ABLE stamp set. To create this effect you stamp your image on black cardstock using Versamark ink, sprinkle white embossing powder and heat set. Using white pigment ink and a sponge whip around the outside of the image for a "chalk" effect.

Simple Stories Smarty Pants paper was perfect for this box. I decorated the box using a number of YNS dies including the APPLE DIE, LETTERBOARD, NOTEBOOK EDGE and FILE TAB.

Box Measurements:

The base of the box will be cut at 9 1/2 x 8 1/4 inches. Score your box at 1 3/4 inches, rotate the paper and repeat on all sides.

For the lid just add between 1/16 inches to 1/8 of an inch to size of base measurement. Again score at 1 3/4 inches on all sides.

The set of thank you cards inside the box are a simply designed card measuring 4.25 x 5.5.
I again used the APPLE die, along with the CIRCLE, STITCHING MARK CIRCLE and FANCY THANKS dies.

Supplies Used:
Stamps: A'dork'able (Your Next Stamp)
Dies: Apple, Letter Board, Notebook Edge, File Tab, Fancy Thanks, Circle and Stitching Mark Circle (Your Next Stamp), MFT scallop die
Paper: Simple Stories Smarty Pants
Other: Copic Markers, Versamark Ink, Recollections White embossing powder, Black Soot Distress Ink

Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps - Creating a Gift Box

I am sharing a tutorial over on the Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps blog on how to create a gift box. I used the SMARTY PANTS stamp set to decorate this box.

You can find the full tutorial here.

This box was used for a set of 12 note cards (with envelopes) and the box measures 6 x 4 3/4 x 1 3/4 inches.

Here is a look at the finished box, complete with the set of note cards.

You can see the video tutorial on creating the chalkboard effect on the Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps YouTube page here.

Here is another example of a gift box. This one measures 5 3/4 inches square. The cardstock for the base of your box will measure at 9 1/4 inches square. Score at 1 3/4 on all sides. Again the lid will be 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch large than the base size with the same score at 1 3/4 inches on all sides). The stamp on this box is I {HEART} COFFEE.

Head over to the Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps blog for the FULL TUTORIAL

It's Wednesday and time for two fabulous and fun challenges at Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps and Little Red Wagon.

This week at Little Red Wagon, Joanne is hosting and the theme for this week's challenge is BACK TO SCHOOL. To play along create a new school related projects and link it up over at the LITTLE RED WAGON blog.

Over KRAFTIN' KIMMIE STAMPS our Wonderful Wednesday challenge theme is always ANYTHING GOES. That's right any theme, style or design and since we would love to see you play along with these challenges you can use any stamp. Just create a NEW project (card, layout, altered item) and join in the fun over at the Kraftin' Kimmie Challenge blog. This is the first Wonderful Wednesday for September and you can play along each week if you'd like. At the end of the month, one random winner will be chosen from the submissions and receive a $20 gift card to the shop!

For my kids, yesterday was the first day back to school. They were very excited to be back and both girls were very please that they got the teachers they wanted this year. For my back to school project I created this cute note holder featuring the ever chic geek Lulu from the Smarty Pants set.

The holder was created to fit sticky notes measuring 3x3. I used the fun Doodlebug "Take Note" collections and elements from Simple Stories Smarty Pants collections.

Here is another view to see how the note holder folds down.

Another angle, just because!

Since this may end up on the teachers desk, I also decorated the back of the note holder.

I hope you have time to play along with our BACK TO SCHOOL challenge over at LITTLE RED WAGON. While you are visiting the blog please check out the projects created by the other Girlfriends.

Please also check out the KRAFTIN' KIMMIE WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY challenge. You will find more inspiration from some of the Krafty Girls and Guests at the challenge blog.

Thanks for stopping by and have a Wonderful Wednesday.

Decorated Notebook - Nerd is the Word!

It's the final week of the kids in school and I am just wrapping up the teacher gifts. In addition to the note holder I made (here), each of my daughter's teachers will also be getting an altered notebook.

For the first note pad I cut a cover from heavy card stock to fit the top of the pad (5x8) and decorated it with paper and stickers from Simple Stories Smarty Pants collection. The cover was secured to the notepad with black electrical tape which I then covered with washi tape.

The image is from Kraftin' Kimmie Stamp and is also called "Smarty Pants". I wanted to create a chalkboard effect with this image so I heat embossed the image onto black cards stock. I then added a bit of white pigment ink around the image for the additional look of "chalk".

The notebook was personalized for the teacher (the name is was erased in editing).

The apple was also heat embossed using white powder onto white card stock. I then coloured the image with Copics and fussy cut it for a pop of colour.

The cluster to school supplies are all stickers from the Smarty Pants collection. I added clear acetate sheet to the glasses to create lenses.

I used the sketch from the current challenge over at Sassy Cheryl's digital stamp as my inspiration for the cover the book. If you look closely you should see the key elements from the sketch. This is also the last challenge on the Sassy Cheryl challenge blog. I have not yet won with her challenges, so I am crossing my fingers that this one is my lucky one!

Thanks for dropping in today.

CHALLENGES

Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps: June Krafty Crop Challenge #3 Unconventional colours. Although Chalkboard is not unconventional for school I used an unconventional way of "colouring" my image with just the embossing. (Not sure if that counts)

Sassy Cheryl Digital Stamps Challenge: #211 Let's Get Sketchy.

7 Kids College Fund: #102 Anything Goes
